Instructional Trimming Workshops

|
Attending a wholistic hoofcare workshop is the best way to learn more about keeping your horse's hooves healthy for a lifetime!
DAY 1:
Day 1 consists of a full day of hoofcare theory and lecture, hoof dissection
and discussion, and partial hands-on trimming instruction. Topics will include proper
environment and management to promote healthy hooves, physiology of the hoof, hoof
mechanism, common hoof pathologies, regaining and
maintaining soundness and the effects of shoeing. You will learn how to
"map" the foot to uncover imbalances and potential problem areas. Cheryl will trim and dissect
a cadaver hoof while participants have the opportunity to ask questions and explore the inner workings of the hoof. The hoof dissection gives a deeper understanding of hoof physiology and demonstrates hoof mechanism.
To learn more about why cadaver hoof trimming and dissection is an important aspect of learning proper trimming, visit our Cadaver Info page.
|
DAY 2:
Day 2 consists of all-day hands-on trimming of cadaver hooves and/or live horses.
Participants who have no prior trimming experience are required to work on cadaver
hooves. Those with prior trimming experience may trim their own horses, with Cheryl's approval. Well-behaved horses only, please! Horse owners are encouraged
to take an active part in their horse's regular hoof care, and are encouraged to learn
how to perform a basic trim. This is a wonderful skill to learn, especially if your area
doesn't have many farriers (or reliable ones!)
(Left: Workshop participants focus on trimming technique, using cadaver hooves)
|
DAY 3:
Day 3 is an additional day of hands-on trimming of cadaver hooves and/or live horses. Emphasis is on additional trimming techniques, proper usage of tools, and more attention to detail.

If you have previously hosted a 2-day workshop and would like to host another, please contact us if you'd like to change the format to include 2 full days of trimming without the hoof lecture and dissection. All other locations must meet a minimum of 10 pre-registered participants.
