Individual Hoof Documentations

Wholistic Bare Hoof Health Documentation and Photographing

(Approx. 2 hours per horse)

Over 80% of horses are euthanized due to locomotor (leg & hoof) lameness. Most of these lamenesses happen as a result of small changes in your horse's hoof form and function over time, and can be prevented!

Having your horse's hoof health documented allows you to discover changes in form, function and health long before these changes cause problems.

It is highly recommended that every horse have their hoof health documented annually, to track changes in hoof form and function.

During a Hoof Health Documentation, you'll get:
  • A basic education on hoof form, function and health
  • A detailed hoof health documentation and report
  • Suggestions and recommendations for improvement, if needed
  • Documents and informational packets on issues that are discussed

    Your Hoof Health Report includes:
  • Extensive measurements of nearly every part of the hoof
  • Hoof temperature readings
  • Indication of any response from Hoof Testers
  • A rating from 1-10 on the Usability/Lameness scale
  • Notes on any particular problem areas
  • A complete set of photographs for each hoof
  • Notes pointing to any problems that show in the photos

Hoof Documentation services do not include trimming, and are for informational and documentation purposes only. Your complete Hoof Health Report is mailed to you within 14 days of your documentation appointment.

Please Note: Some measurements cannot be taken on horses who wear shoes and/or shoes with pads. This is because the shoe/pad covers up areas that need to be measured. If your horse wears shoes and/or shoes with pads, it is highly recommended that your documentation is scheduled so that these measurements can be taken after your farrier pulls the shoes and trims, but before the horse is re-shod.

    Hoof Documentation Workshops

Host a hoof documentation workshop at your farm or stable for your boarders. A documentation workshop is one full day, starting at 9am. The day starts with a 2-3 hour lecture on proper hoof care and anatomy. The lecture includes discussion on indentifying potential problems, what the individual responsibilities are for horse owners and farriers, how to pick a farrier that is right for your horse, and how to take control of your horse's hoof health. At the end of the lecture, questions from the participants will be answered.

Starting at 11am, individual documentations will be given for each of the participant's horses. Up to 10 individual documentations can be scheduled during a one-day workshop. Hoof Documentation services are for informational and documentation purposes only. Each participant's completed Hoof Health Report is mailed to them within 14 days after the workshop date.

The workshop fees include the lecture, documentation and Hoof Health Report for each participant. Each documentation will take approximately 1 hour, so each participant will need to pre-schedule their individual documentations before the day of the workshop.

A minimum of 4 paying participants is required to host a documentation workshop. The host of the workshop receives free attendance. If there are six or more paying participants at a workshop, the host of the workshop will also receive one free individual documentation for their own horse.

Documentation Workshops can be scheduled at any farm or stable within 100 miles of either Kirkland, Illinois or Frankfort, Illinois. Farms or stables beyond this distance may be subjected to a travel fee.
